Bilateral relations
The only high-level bilateral visit to date was the official visit of Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip to Turkmenistan from 28 to 30 November 2011. During the visit, the Prime Minister met with President and Head of Government of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, and Speaker of Parliament Akja Nurberdiyeva. The Prime Minister was accompanied by a business delegation, and a business forum was organised in Ashgabat.
In cooperation with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe office in Ashgabat, the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised a study visit in June 2013 for three representatives from Turkmenistan, who familiarised themselves with Estonia’s media legislation and media self-regulation practices.
In 2018–2019, the e-Governance Academy provided training for Turkmen officials on land cadastre issues. Representatives of Turkmenistan have also participated in development cooperation training programmes organised under other initiatives.
Three rounds of political consultations have been held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Estonia and Turkmenistan: in 2011, 2019 and 2025.
