History of diplomatic relations

On 21 March 2002, Radoje Zečević, the first Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to Estonia, presented his credentials. Estonia’s first Ambassador to Serbia** was Mart Laanemäe, who resided in Tallinn. Since 2019, the Estonian Ambassador to Serbia has resided in Budapest.

Estonia’s first honorary consulate in Belgrade was opened in 2014. The honorary consul is Petar Rakočević.

*At the time, the country was the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. On 4 February 2003, the federal republic was reconstituted as the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. On 5 June 2006, the Serbian Parliament declared Serbia an independent republic and the successor state to the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro.
