San Marino

Bilateral relations between Estonia and San Marino are very good, but not particularly close. At the same time, San Marino is a very popular tourist destination for Estonians. The Republic of San Marino is an enclave within the territory of Italy. According to legend, San Marino was founded by St Marinus on 3 September 301, making it the oldest republic in the world.

History of diplomatic relations

Diplomatic relations between Estonia and San Marino were established on 9 July 2003. The first ambassador of San Marino to Estonia, Silvia Berti, presented her credentials to President Ilves on 21 February 2008. The ambassador is based in San Marino.

The first Ambassador of Estonia to San Marino, Andres Tomasberg, served from 2009–2010, Merike Kokajev from 2010–2014, and Celia Kuningas-Saagpakk from 2014–2020.

Current ambassador Paul Teesalu presented his credentials to the San Marino Captain Regents Alessandro Cardelli and Mirko Dolcini on 20 November 2020. The ambassador is based in Rome. Currently, the Captain Regents are Adele Tonnini I and Alessandro Scarano I.

No high-level visits have been organised.
