Order of Malta

The Estonian government decided to establish diplomatic relations with the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes, and of Malta (the Order of Malta) in January 2020, and diplomatic relations were concluded by an exchange of notes at the headquarters of the Order in Rome on 10 March 2020.

The first ambassador of Estonia to the Order of Malta, Paul Teesalu, presented his credentials to the Lieutenant of the Grand Master of the Order of Malta, Fra´ Marco Luzzago, on 20 January 2021. The ambassador is based in Rome. The ambassador of the Order of Malta in Estonia, Manfred L. Ritter Mautner von Markhof presented his credentials to President Kersti Kaljulaid on 6 July 2021. The Order of Malta opened its embassy in Tallinn on 29 June 2023.
