The donors’ discussions focused on Ukraine’s budget needs for 2027. According to Undersecretary Ratnik, support for Ukraine must continue actively using all available means, including through European Union instruments.
“At a time when Russia’s extensive drone and missile attacks against Ukrainian civilians, the economy and critical infrastructure are increasing, and Russia has shown no sign whatsoever of abandoning its objectives, it is important to continue supporting Ukraine in all areas. There is no doubt that Ukraine’s international partners remain committed to doing so. We must support Ukraine’s economy and resilience, particularly in view of the coming winter,” Ratnik said.
Ratnik stressed that Estonia supports closer alignment of Ukraine’s reform commitments with the European Union accession process. “Better alignment between reform requirements and the accession process would make it possible to focus on a smaller number of more impactful reforms. This would help reduce Ukraine’s administrative burden and accelerate the successful implementation of reforms,” Ratnik said.
During her visit, Undersecretary Ratnik met with representatives of the donor platform’s member states and members of the cabinets of European Commission Commissioners to discuss preparations for the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which will take place in Tallinn in January 2027.
“Ukraine’s recovery and its accession to the European Union are inextricably linked. Strengthening resilient, democratic institutions that uphold European values directly supports Ukraine’s progress towards the European Union. That is why one of the central themes of the conference in Tallinn will be Ukraine’s closer integration with the European Union and the reforms needed to achieve this, from the rule of law to digital governance,” said Ratnik.
The Ukraine Donor Platform coordinates international support to meet Ukraine’s budgetary needs and support economic recovery and reconstruction. The platform was established at the initiative of the G7 leaders in December 2022 with the aim of improving the planning and coordination of assistance and avoiding duplication of activities and funding.
