“Russia has not abandoned its objectives and continues to attack Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure as the country faces another difficult winter. Ukraine must be able to defend itself so that it can enter any potential peace negotiations from the strongest possible position. The stronger Ukraine is, the less leverage Russia has to dictate the terms of peace,” Foreign Minister Tsahkna said.
“Military support for Ukraine and pressure on Russia must continue hand in hand. Our goal is a just and lasting peace, not a situation in which Russia demands at the negotiating table what it has failed to achieve on the battlefield. This is important for the future and security of both Ukraine and Europe as a whole,” Tsahkna stressed.
Before today’s decision, Estonia had provided €21 million in support for Ukraine through PURL.
PURL, or the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List, is a NATO-coordinated initiative through which European Allies and Canada fund the procurement of weapons for Ukraine from the United States. It is one of the most effective ways for Allies to channel financial support towards purchasing weapons Ukraine needs urgently, particularly air defence systems and ammunition. NATO coordinates the delivery of this assistance to Ukraine.
