Minister Tsahkna said that Estonia continued to support the two-state solution and the implementation of the Gaza peace plan. “For Estonia, the two-state solution is the only way to ensure lasting peace and security in the region for both Israelis and Palestinians. We understand Israel’s security concerns, and Estonia fully supports the disarmament of Hamas. Hamas must have no role in Gaza’s future. At the same time, the humanitarian situation in Gaza is deeply concerning. We will continue to work closely with our partners to ensure unimpeded access for humanitarian aid and the protection of civilians in Gaza,” the Foreign Minister said. He added that Estonia had helped alleviate the humanitarian situation in Gaza and had long supported Palestinian refugees through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The meeting also addressed the continued expansion of settlements and settler violence in the West Bank. “Settlement construction and settler violence are unacceptable and undermine the prospects for a two-state solution,” Tsahkna said.
The situation in Lebanon was also discussed. “The European Union must continue to support Lebanon. Estonia welcomes the establishment of an EU support mission in Lebanon to assist the Lebanese Armed Forces in safeguarding the country’s stability and sovereignty,” the Foreign Minister said.
The discussions also covered the importance of stability and peaceful development in Syria for the security of the region as a whole.
“Estonia fully supports an international order based on international law. Whether supporting Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression or addressing the situation in the Middle East, we are guided by the principle that international law must be upheld everywhere,” Tsahkna stressed.
