Today 15 July, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia summoned the Russian Ambassador in Estonia Aleksandr Petrov to present a note on declaring a diplomat of the Russian embassy persona non grata.
The step was taken in line with international diplomatic customs and the principle of reciprocity as a response to the expulsion of an Estonian consul from Russia.
We hope this episode will not harm the bilateral relations of Estonia and Russia. Estonia remains interested in neighbourly and constructive relations.
It is still regrettable that Russia has taken an unfriendly line in its communication with the European Union and member states.
