Foreign Minister Tsahkna: We Strongly Advise Against Travel to Saudi Arabia and the Wider Region Amid Escalating Houthi Attacks

11.10.2026 | 13:53

Yemen's Houthi rebels have significantly intensified their attacks against Saudi Arabia in recent days, targeting both civilians and civilian infrastructure. Last night, Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport was struck in the deadliest terrorist attack seen in the country in the past decade. According to preliminary reports, 12 people were killed and more than 300 injured.

''The deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure constitutes a blatant violation of international law. Estonia unequivocally condemns these terrorist attacks carried out by the Houthis. We are closely monitoring developments on the ground.

Given the rapidly evolving and increasingly unpredictable security situation across the Middle East, we strongly advise against travel to Saudi Arabia and the wider region. Further attacks may occur with little or no warning, while any escalation could lead to significant disruptions to air travel and even the temporary closure of national borders.

We urge Estonian citizens currently in the region to exercise heightened caution, avoid large public gatherings and other high-risk locations, and follow the instructions of local authorities at all times. We also encourage all Estonian nationals abroad to register their stay through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Reisi Targalt portal, enabling us to establish contact quickly should the need arise."
