Foreign Minister Reinsalu said that declaring partial mobilisation was the most serious escalation by Russia since February in its war against Ukraine and the EU unequivocally and strongly condemns it. “Yet another aggression by Russia gravely violates Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and is in complete conflict with international law. Member states will also never recognise the fraudulent referendums in areas occupied by Russia,” he said.
At yesterday’s meeting, the EU foreign ministers also unequivocally condemned Russia’s constant nuclear threats against the West.
The foreign minister emphasised to his colleagues that the EU must increase military, economic and humanitarian aid to Ukraine to help them win the war, and also continue pressuring Russia in every possible way. “On EU level, a new strong sanctions package must be introduced against Russia to isolate the aggressor state internationally and make sure no crime committed in Ukraine goes unpunished,” Reinsalu said. “Estonia is advocating for establishing a special tribunal for holding accountable Russia’s leadership that organised crimes of aggression,” he added.
