Yesterday 23 November, Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets attended a foreign policy forum in Berlin where discussions covered the preparedness of Europe in a new era when digitalisation is changing the structure of international relations and new technologies ranging from artificial intelligence to quantum data processing have a great impact on economic and security relations across the world.

Foreign Minister Liimets took part in the panel “Geopolitics in the digital transformation”, emphasising that the rapid development of digital technologies was both a challenge and an opportunity. “As a digital state we are trying to make the most of these opportunities while considering the challenges. We believe that by using technologies based on democratic values, we can reduce the digital gap that has increased as a result of the coronavirus pandemic,” Minister Liimets explained. She also noted that Estonia considered it important to develop a common digital policy of the European Union and have multilateral partnerships to bolster Europe’s role on digital technology issues.
