Estonia’s foreign minister underlined the importance of Poland in ensuring the security of our region, which is demonstrated by Poland’s direct contribution to the security of Estonia. “Estonia highly appreciates Poland’s participation in NATO’s collective defence. For example, their aircraft have repeatedly taken part in the Baltic Air Policing mission in Ämari and Šiauliai, and they have practiced cooperating with our and Allied units in the annual Spring Storm exercise in Estonia,” Minister Liimets said. “The cooperation of the defence forces of Estonia and Poland has also been crucial in stopping the hybrid attack by Belarus on the EU-Belarus border.”
The focus of the meeting was on the deterioration of the security situation in Europe. “By putting Ukraine under unprecedented military, hybrid and political pressure, Russia is challenging the foundations of European security,” Minister Liimets said. “We must respond to this forceful action together and with strong messages. Ukraine needs our support and broad-based assistance, which we are offering with our partners and allies.”
The foreign ministers of Estonia and Poland also spoke about other topical European Union issues, such as climate policy. Additionally, they discussed cooperation in the Three Seas Initiative and the global efforts by democracies towards market-based and values-based trusted connectivity.
