Today 18 October, Martin Tulit joins the European Union monitoring mission in Georgia (EUMM) as a reporting and information official.
EUMM Georgia is a monitoring mission created in 2008 to monitor and survey the implementation of the six-point agreement mediated by the European Union. The mission has more than 200 observers from 25 different European Union member states. The mission has offices in Gori, Mtskheta and Zugdidi. Estonia has been participating in the mission since its creation.
Martin Tulit will be responsible for reporting and collecting information at the Zugdidi field office, analysing the information and forwarding it to the mission’s headquarters in Tbilisi and EU member states.
Martin Tulit has held various positions at the Ministry of the Interior, most recently serving as the director general of the Civil Society Department. He has a master’s degree from the University of Tartu in comparative politics and is currently in the internal security master’s programme at the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences. Tulit has also studied at the Uppsala University in Sweden and at the Tbilisi State University in Georgia. He has been an active volunteer and taken part in the European Volunteer Service in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Martini Tulit’s main aim on the mission is to help normalise the life and relations of locals after many conflicts and the war of 2008. He also aims to provide EU member states with neutral and objective information about the situation on the ground.
Estonia is posting experts to international civilian missions to help prevent and manage international conflicts in our immediate neighbourhood and beyond. 11 experts posted by Estonia are currently working with various international civilian missions. Estonian experts are taking part in European Union missions in Ukraine, Georgia, Iraq and Somalia, the UN UNMIK mission in Kosovo and the OSCE SMM mission in Ukraine. Participation in civilian missions is coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
