Estonian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Sten Schwede, the first Estonian ambassador residing in Seoul, presented his credentials to Moon Jae-in, the President of the Republic of Korea. Discussing good bilateral relations, the ambassador and the president highlighted the excellent cyber cooperation between the countries. “Both countries can learn from each other, so the exchange of experience and best practices should definitely continue in the future,” Ambassador Schwede said.
In the conversation following the ceremony, the ambassador also mentioned the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Estonia and the Republic of Korea on 17 October. To celebrate the diplomatic relations between the countries, works by Estonian and Korean composers will be performed at the main hall of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre at 12.00 on 17 October. Additionally, a launch is organised for the translation of the novel Spring by Oskar Luts in Seoul on 26 November.
The Republic of Korea recognised the independence of Estonia on 6 September 1991 and diplomatic relations were established on 17 October the same year. In January 2020, the Estonian government decided to open an Estonian embassy in Seoul.
The concert is held in a hybrid format and can be followed virtually on the YouTube channel of the academy.
