In the conversation following the presentation ceremony, the ambassador and the secretary general spoke about the difficult situation in the OSCE caused by Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
“Russia must end its war in Ukraine and return to the fundamental principles of the OSCE, on which all the participating states have agreed unanimously,” Ambassador Tael underlined.
Kaja Tael was born on 24 July 1960 in Tallinn. She graduated from the University of Tartu in 1983 with a degree in Estonian language and literature. Kaja Tael has worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1998, when she became the secretary in charge of the intergovernmental commission of Estonia and Russia. From 1999 to 2001, Tael was the director general of the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between 2006 and 2012, she was the undersecretary for European Union Affairs, and the undersecretary for European and transatlantic relations. From January 2020 until July 2023, she was the Foreign Ministry’s ambassador at large for climate and energy policy. Kaja Tael has previously been Estonia’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Germany and the European Union. Since August 2023, she represents Estonia at the OSCE and resides in Vienna, Austria.
