Today 5 February, Estonian Ambassador Ingrid Amer presented her credentials to the President of Lebanon Joseph Aoun.

In the conversation following the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Amer and President Aoun discussed ways of boosting relations between Estonia and Lebanon.

“Estonia values its cooperation with Lebanon and we are looking for ways to achieve closer relations,” Amer said, adding that she saw the greatest potential in the domain of digital transformation. “Estonia appreciates that Lebanon composed its e-state building strategy by modelling it on the experience of Estonia among others. We are ready to contribute fully to Lebanon’s digital development.”

They also spoke about global security and economic challenges. Amer said she hoped the current truce in Lebanon would give an impetus to positive developments and the implementation of the UN’s resolution 1701. “We are closely following developments in Lebanon and the whole region,” Amer said. “Through the UN, Estonia has contributed to the security of the region for almost 30 years. Additionally, Estonia’s largest foreign mission is conducted in Iraq, where up to 110 Estonian soldiers at a time have served since 2023.”

Ingrid Amer graduated with a degree in philology from the University of Tartu. She joined the foreign service in 1995. She has worked at Estonian embassies in Warsaw, Helsinki and Prague, as well as in the State Protocol Department and the Political Department of the Foreign Ministry. She has led the Central Europe and Balkans Division and the divisions of southeast Europe, general affairs of the European Union and enlargement. Between 2013 and 2018, Ingrid Amer was the deputy head in the Estonian embassy in Paris and between 2016 and 2018, she was the Estonian Ambassador to UNESCO.
