Estonian Ambassador to Greece Karin Rannu presents her credentials

Yesterday 10 May, Estonian Ambassador to Greece Karin Rannu presented her credentials to President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

In the conversation following the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Rannu and President Sakellaropoulou reaffirmed the good relations between Estonia and Greece.

Speaking about the war in Ukraine and European security, Ambassador Rannu and President Sakellaropoulou expressed regret over the events and reiterated the need to be determined in using every possible option for ending the war as quickly as possible.

They also discussed ways of increasing bilateral cooperation, in particular in the digital domain, but also in maritime affairs and shipping. “As maritime nations, we have something in common in these fields and we should take a closer look at this area,” Rannu said.

“I am happy to note that this year marks 100 years since diplomatic relations were established between Estonia and Greece. We will continue supporting each other on various issues bilaterally, in NATO, the EU and other fora,” Ambassador Rannu said.
The Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in Greece was opened in 1997 and it celebrated its 25th birthday in early April. In addition to Greece and Cyprus, the embassy also represents Estonia in Albania.

Ambassador Karin Rannu joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996. She has worked at the Press and Information Department and at the Estonian embassy in Sweden. Karin Rannu has also worked as the Foreign Relations Adviser at the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the EU in Brussels. Between 2018 and 2020, she was the Brexit Coordinator in Estonia and from 2020 to 2021, she was the Special Representative on Baltic Sea Cooperation. Ambassador Rannu graduated from the University of Tartu with distinction  with a degree  in history. Rannu speaks English, Swedish, German, Russian, French and Finnish.
