On Wednesday, 22 August, Estonia’s new Ambassador to the Czech Republic Eva-Maria Liimets presented her credentials to President Miloš Zeman.
After the ceremony, Ambassador Liimets and President Zeman affirmed the good relationship and close cooperation between the two countries. „We are reliable partners in the European Union and NATO, and value the Czech Republic’s participation in NATO’s Baltic air policing mission highly,“ said Liimets.
The parties also discussed the similar challenges and positive developments in both countries’ recent history, alongside opportunities to further bilateral relations. The Ambassador stressed Estonia’s readiness to strengthen cooperation in a variety of fields, placing particular emphasis on digital society and cyber security. „We are pleased to see the Czech Republic take note of Estonia’s experience in e-Governance and look for opportunities to increase cooperation on digital issues,“ she remarked.
Eva-Maria Liimets has graduated from the University of Tartu in public administration and the Estonian Business School with a master’s degree in international business, and completed the international programme at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. She joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1997 and has worked in the embassies in Rome and Washington as well as the Consulate General in New York as Consul General. From 2009 to 2014 Liimets was the director of the international organisations division and since 2017 worked on the European Union’s Baltic Sea strategy in the Ministry’s European division.
