Following the presentation ceremony, President Khachaturyan and Ambassador Mardisalu-Kahar spoke about the close bilateral relations between Estonia and Armenia, various cooperation opportunities, including on digital affairs and education, Armenia’s closer cooperation with the European Union and the importance of supporting Ukraine for both Estonia and Armenia.
“Estonia firmly supports Armenia’s commitment to deepening democratic values and closer cooperation with the European Union,” Mardisalu-Kahar told President Khachaturyan. “The situation in Ukraine directly influences the validity of international law worldwide and therefore, the stability of the Southern Caucasus. Relations between Estonia and Armenia have become closer in recent years and this is demonstrated by several high-level visits,” the ambassador added.
Mardisalu-Kahar joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996. Between 1997 and 2009, she worked in various posts at the Policy Department of the ministry, mainly focusing on Eastern and Central European countries, but also Afghanistan and Scandinavia. From 2011 to 2013, she was the Estonian representative in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia working group of the European Union. From 2013 to 2016, she was the Director of the Estonian Center of Eastern Partnership. Between 2016 and 2019, she was the Deputy Head of the Estonian embassy in Berlin. From 2019, she was the Director of the Security Policy Division and from 2022 until her appointment as the Estonian Ambassador to Georgia and Armenia in August 2024, she was the Director General of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Department.
The ambassador resides in Tbilisi, Georgia.
