In the conversation following the presentation ceremony, Amer thanked the Arab League for its support to Estonia in the UN Security Council. She also gave an overview of Estonia’s work as a member of the UN Security Council in 2020 and 2021. “Estonia considers the developments in the region important and we will continue contributing to the security and stability of the Middle East and North Africa by taking part in missions, providing humanitarian aid and prioritising international law in conflict resolution and prevention,” Amer said, noting that the conversation also covered the future of the Middle East Peace Process.
Amer also spoke about providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine where Russia has been waging a brutal war for seven months now.
Ingrid Amer graduated with a degree in philology from the University of Tartu. She joined the foreign service in 1995. She has worked at Estonian embassies in Warsaw, Helsinki and Prague, as well as in the State Protocol Department and the Political Department of the Foreign Ministry. She has led the Central Europe and Balkans Division and the divisions of southeast Europe, general affairs of the European Union and enlargement. Between 2013 and 2018, Ingrid Amer was the deputy head in the Estonian embassy in Paris and between 2016 and 2018, she was the Estonian Ambassador to UNESCO. From 2018 to 2022, Amer was the Director of the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From this year, she is the Estonian Ambassador to Egypt and a non-resident ambassador to the Republic of Mali.
Estonia is represented at the Arab League by the Estonian ambassador in Egypt.
