Today 2 July at 15.00, the Foreign Ministry is organising a free virtual masterclass on cyber diplomacy, which is open to all.
“In a digitally connected world, cybersecurity is crucial. More than ever, it is also shaping international relations,” Estonian Ambassador at Large for Cyber Security Heli Tiirmaa-Klaar explained.
According to Tiirmaa-Klaar, several cyberattacks have been made on hospitals and other medical facilities in recent months, and there has been a rise in cybercrime. “This makes it an even more fitting time to bring together Estonian and international experts from across the world to further boost the knowledge of the diplomats of various countries and other interested actors about various aspects of cyber diplomacy. A greater awareness gives an additional impetus to relevant discussions at the UN, in the European Union and NATO, and helps us uphold responsible behaviour in cyberspace,” she added.
The event will look at various aspects of cyber diplomacy, including the application of international law in cyberspace, norms for responsible state behaviour, confidence-building measures and cyber capacity building.
The virtual masterclass is open to everyone via the Foreign Ministry’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
