Today, Estonian Ambassador to Australia Andres Unga and High Commissioner of Papua New Guinea in Australia Charles W. Lepani established diplomatic relations between Estonia and Papua New Guinea. Also, Ambassador Unga met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Papua New Guinea Rimbink Pato, who was on a visit in Canberra.
They discussed opportunities to develop relations between Estonia and Papua New Guinea, including in the field of economics and IT. “We are glad that Papua New Guinea is interested in Estonian e-solutions. We see many opportunities to develop cooperation. Economic contacts could be cultivated via mutual visits,” Ambassador Unga said.
In addition, the role of small countries in international politics was discussed and supporting each other’s candidacy in international organisations.
Independent State of Papua New Guinea is situated in the continent of Australia & Oceania. The country includes the eastern half of the island and many small islands, the biggest of which are New Britain, Bougainville, and New Ireland. The capital of Papua New Guinea is Port Moresby. The country has a population of 6,79 million. Official languages are Tok Pisin, English and Hiri Motu.
