Estonia and Chad establish diplomatic relations

28. September 2018 - 9:45

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Sven Mikser and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chad Mahamat Zene Cherif established diplomatic relations between the two countries during their meeting at the UN General Assembly.

“Although Estonia and Chad are quite far from each other geographically, the distance is not an obstacle to good relations,” Mikser said, adding that establishment of diplomatic relations will create new opportunities to develop relations between Estonia and Chad.

For Chad, a country situated in central Africa, conflict prevention and peacekeeping are the most important topics in the UN. Chad, for example, has 1,400 troops taking part in UN peacekeeping operations.

Around 14 million people live in Chad and its capital is N’Djamena. Chad’s official languages are French and Arabic.
