In a video meeting, the foreign ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania discussed reopening movement between the countries, as well as Baltic cooperation.
The ministers noted that the aim was to come to a coordinated decision, and agreed on the main topics of trilateral negotiations. The ministers decided that the abolition of measures should subsequently be discussed by health ministers, and high-ranking officials from three countries will start negotiations for a more coordinated approach early next week. The foreign ministers will hold their next round of negotiations on 8 May.
Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu recognised Latvia and Lithuania for their close cooperation throughout the crisis. “Close contacts and efficient cooperation with the Baltic States during the COVID-19 crisis has been indispensable for us,” Reinsalu emphasised. “Joint decisions in the gradual easing of restrictions are important for allowing cross-border movement by applying measures that would stop the additional spread of the virus.”
