History of Diplomatic relations
Lithuania recognized the Republic of Estonia on March 2, 1921, and restored recognition to independent Estonia after the occupation on August 22, 1991. After the restoration of independence, Estonia’s first ambassador to Lithuania was Valvi Strikaitiene (1992–1996). The first Lithuanian ambassador to Estonia after the restoration of independence was Halina Kobeckaité (1994–1997).
The current Lithuanian ambassador, Gitana Skripkaitė, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic on September 12, 2025. Estonia's ambassador to Lithuania, Kaili Terras, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, on November 19, 2024.
Estonia has two honorary consuls in Lithuania: Gintaras Sluckus, with a consular district covering Šiauliai, Panevėžys, and Utena counties, and Arnoldas Šileika, with a consular district covering Klaipėda, Telšiai, and Tauragė counties. The honorary consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Estonia, with a consular district covering Tartu and Tartu County, is Birute Klaas-Lang, a professor at the University of Tartu and the Chairperson of the Estonian Language Council.
The Estonian-Lithuanian parliamentary group has been established in the Riigikogu.

Active defense cooperation has been taking place in the so-called Baltic format (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania) since February 12, 1995, based on a cooperation agreement signed by the defense ministers. Currently, the most important cooperation formats include the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL), NATO Baltic Air Policing, and joint participation in exercises. Additionally, increasingly relevant is close cooperation in capability development and joint procurement.
