Bahrein

Estonia’s bilateral relations with Bahrain are developing in several areas as part of Estonia’s growing interest in the Gulf region, with a particular focus on economic cooperation. Estonia and Bahrain also cooperate within the framework of relations between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

History of diplomatic relations

Bahrain recognised the Republic of Estonia on 15 September 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 27 April 2004.
The first Estonian Ambassador to Bahrain, Jaan Reinhold, residing in Abu Dhabi, presented his credentials in 2020. Estonia’s Ambassador Maria Belovas, residing in Abu Dhabi, presented her credentials to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain on 22 April 2025.
The first Bahraini Ambassador to Estonia, Dr Muhammad Abdul Ghaffar, residing in Paris, presented his credentials in 2018. Bahrain currently covers Estonia from Berlin, but a new ambassador to Estonia has not yet been appointed. 
The parliaments of Bahrain and Estonia have friendship groups, established on 15 March 2023 and 24 April 2023 respectively. The Estonia–Bahrain Parliamentary Group in the Riigikogu is chaired by Helle-Moonika Helme.
