In 2017, the export of goods totalled 12.8 billion euros and total imports amounted to 14.7 billion euros. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2017 the exports of goods increased by 8% and imports by 9%. Estonian foreign trade is mainly based on strong economic ties with Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Germany, Lithuania and Russia, as well as with other countries.
The main countries of destination were Finland (16% of Estonia’s total exports), Sweden (14%) and Latvia (9%) and the main countries of consignment were Finland (14% of Estonia’s total imports), Germany (11%) and Lithuania (9%). In 2017, the share of European Union countries in Estonia´s total exports was 71% and total import 82%.
The main export goods are machinery and equipment (26%), wood and products thereof (11%), mineral products (10%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (9%).
