Today 13 April, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs holds the first virtual forum for Global Estonians to present its activities and plans aimed at expat Estonians.
The virtual forum is a follow-up to last year’s survey conducted among Estonians living abroad and the next step in an even closer cooperation between Estonia and Estonians worldwide.
“There are nearly 200 000 people of Estonian origin across the world and they all should feel they matter to their native land and that they have a chance to contribute to Estonia’s development. This is why I would like to invite all Estonians abroad to present their ideas and suggestions, so that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could plan its activities aimed at Global Estonians in a way that would meet the your expectations and wishes,” Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets said.
Questions and proposals can be submitted by email: email@example.com
At today’s virtual forum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presents its current actions and plans for Global Estonians, and gives a more detailed overview of the survey that was carried out last year among Estonians living abroad. The programme also outlines how the new policy foci of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – business diplomacy and cyber diplomacy – help raise Estonia’s profile in the world. Consular services and news aimed at expat Estonians are also presented.
Speakers include Hille Hanso, a political scientist and journalist living Turkey, and Ellen Valter, a lawyer living in Canada, who will offer their insight and experience on how expat Estonians could contribute to Estonia’s development.
The virtual forum is held today 17.00-19.00 in Worksup, where you can also find the programme of the event: https://worksup.com/app#id=DIASPORAA2021
