“Following the recent elections in Hungary, the European Union has been able to take a number of important decisions for both Ukraine and Europe as a whole and move forward on issues that had previously been blocked,” Foreign Minister Tsahkna said at the meeting. “The allocation of a €90 billion loan to Ukraine and the imminent opening of the first cluster of EU accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova are landmark decisions that contribute to Europe’s credibility, strength and security.”
Foreign Minister Tsahkna stated that Estonia also supports the opening of the remaining five negotiation clusters with Ukraine and Moldova. The meeting additionally addressed the development of the next package of sanctions against Russia and efforts to hold Russia accountable.
The meeting with the Hungarian Foreign Minister, held under Estonia’s chairmanship of the Nordic-Baltic cooperation format (NB8) this year, was attended by representatives of Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Latvia and Lithuania.
