Member of Estonian Parliament Mr. Eerik-Niiles Kross met on 16 May 2018 with the Speaker of the Zambian National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Patrick Matibini, the Zambian Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Joe Malanji and the Zambian Minister for Transport and Communication Mr. Brian Mushimba.

Zambia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs was the first African minister to visit Estonia in 2007.

As Zambia is now building up its e-governance system and communications infrastructure, there are numerous possibilities for cooperation between Zambia and Estonia’s ICT companies. The Minister for Transport and Communication was particularly interested in the electronic services offered in Estonia as well as the practical possibilities of the Estonian ID card.

The Zambian side appreciated Estonia’s initiative in visiting Lusaka and emphasised the importance of direct contacts with African countries.

The Estonian delegation was led by Eerik Niles Kross, Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Estonia and Member of Parliament. The delegation included Daniel Schaer, Ambassador-at-Large and Special Diplomatic Representative of the President of the Republic of Estonia and Kaisa Mitt-Alvarez, counsellor, UN Security Council Task Force of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Estonian Delegation also introduced Estonia’s campaign to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2020-2021.
