Foreign Minister Sven Mikser meets Foreign Minister of Somalia Ahmed Awad
Foreign Minister of Estonia Sven Mikser meets Foreign Minister of Somalia Ahmed Awad in Addis Abeba
Foreign Minister Sven Mikser met the Foreign Minister of Somalia, Ahmed Awad, in Addis Ababa, to discuss bilateral relations and the security situation in Somalia.
Somalia’s foreign minister confirmed that the security situation in Somalia is improving and in cooperation with development partners, the transfer of the mandate of the African Union Peacekeeping Mission (AMISOM) to Somali security forces has been started.
The ministers agreed that it is important to develop both security architecture and the economy simultaneously. Somalia has expressed interest in implementing e-services developed by Estonia, in particular to reduce corruption.
Mikser reaffirmed that Estonia pays great attention to relations with African countries and invited representatives of Somalia to attend an e-governance conference taking place in Tallinn in May.

Security Council open debate on Upholding the United Nations Charter to Maintain International Peace and Security

On 7-9 March the Estonian delegation promoting Estonia’s Security Council candidature for the period 2020-21 visited Cuba. In Havana, the delegation led by Ambassador Margus Kolga met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla and with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo.
