9. August 2017 - 10:24

Estonian Foreign Minister Sven Mikser met Chairman of the United States House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs Edward Royce yesterday, August 8. Mikser and Royce reaffirmed the good partner relations between the two allies and addressed security topics at length.

“The U.S. is one of Estonia’s most important allies,” said Mikser. “This is demonstrated by the numerous high-level reciprocal visits, the presence of American soldiers in Estonia, and the very close cooperation in the field of cyber security.

At the meeting, the importance of strategic communication was discussed.  Mikser and Royce both said that together, Estonia and the U.S. could help other countries in Eastern Europe combat Russian propaganda.

The strengthening of EU-U.S. relations was also discussed, especially as regards the fight against terrorism as well as in the field of cyber defence and transatlantic trade. “International trade is not a zero-sum game where the winners are on one side and the losers are on the other. Everyone gains from a free trade agreement,” said Mikser.
