Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu spoke to the new Foreign Minister of Moldova Nicu Popescu to congratulate him in his new position and talk about the foreign policy trends of Moldova.

“I send my regards to my newly appointed colleague. Although the term of Foreign Minister Popescu is sure to be full of challenges due to the domestic situation, Estonia is a reliable friend and partner for Moldova,” Foreign Minister Reinsalu said in a phone call, commenting on the objective of the new government of Moldova to continue on the European Union course, which requires fighting corruption, enforcing the rule of law and improving the business environment. The foreign ministers spoke of the need to continue implementing the association and free trade agreement between the EU and Moldova. They also discussed further cooperation on improving cybersecurity and fighting hybrid threats.

According to Foreign Minister Reinsalu, the relations between the two countries are becoming increasingly close thanks to Moldova’s orientation towards Europe. “The relations of Estonia and Moldova are increasingly focused on bilateral cooperation, and we definitely support Moldova’s European ambitions,” he added.
