On Monday, Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu will leave for the High Tatras in Slovakia to attend the informal meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) with a clear message that we must find solutions to end the violation of the sovereignty of Ukraine and Georgia. Estonia also considers it vital to continue the OSCE monitoring mission in eastern Ukraine, and security dialogue on adherence to human rights, including media freedom.

On the invitation of Miroslav Lajčák, the Foreign Minister of Slovakia, which currently holds the Chairmanship of the OSCE, the informal meeting of foreign ministers takes place in Slovakia where member states can present their priorities for strengthening the security of the region and enhancing cooperation in a more informal setting. The OSCE is the largest regional security organisation, founded in 1975 by the ideological adversaries of the Cold War, NATO and the Warsaw Pact. The OSCE currently has 57 members.

The Estonian Foreign Minister plans to express our continued disagreement with Russia’s return to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and the importance of restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The Ukraine crisis that erupted in 2014 continues to paralyse cooperation in the OSCE; however, the organisation has a central role in resolving the conflict. The Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) is the largest mission in the history of the OSCE. Estonia is contributing with three monitors.
