Today 17 September, Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu met with Nicky Morgan, the UK’s Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, and discussed the close relations and additional possibilities for cooperation between Estonia and the United Kingdom, especially in digital affairs and cybersecurity.

Urmas Reinsalu expressed gratitude to the Secretary of State for the United Kingdom’s lasting and substantial contribution to the security of Estonia. “The United Kingdom has been a great friend and ally. In terms of new issues, I see a lot of potential in digital cooperation, including artificial intelligence and e-health. We also agree on cyber affairs, which is becoming increasingly important in foreign policy and is also among our priorities as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council," Reinsalu said.

Touching on the United Kingdom's departure from the European Union, Reinsalu said that Estonia considers it important to protect the rights of its citizens and economic interests. “Estonia will do everything it can to ensure that the everyday life of UK citizens living in Estonia continues as smoothly as possible despite Brexit,” Reinsalu said. He also stressed that the priority of the Estonian government is the protection of the rights of Estonian citizens and the interests of entrepreneurs.

Nicky Morgan is in Tallinn to attend the Tallinn Digital Summit.
