On Thursday and Friday, 30 and 31 August, Foreign Minister Sven Mikser took part in the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers (Gymnich) in Vienna, with topics for discussion including developments in the Middle East and transatlantic relations.

"It is important that the European Union and the United States continue negotiations on trade, which would help ease current tensions in trade relations. In the matter of the Iran nuclear deal, now that the United States has withdrawn from the agreement we must continue to look for a collective solution that would take the wishes of all parties into consideration,“ said the Foreign Minister following the discussion on transtlantic relations.

In the meeting regarding developments in the Middle East, Mikser stressed the continued need to enhance the European Union’s aid programmes. „Support for UNRWA* remains absolutely essential – it helps ensure accessibility to education, healthcare and social services in the Gaza Strip,“ added Foreign Minister Mikser.

The foreign ministers also discussed the Western Balkan region, with Foreign Minister Mikser expressing ongoing support for the EU’s enlargement policy which is based around European Union values and strict conditionality.
