Foreign Minister Mikser and his Danish counterpart discuss security situation and relations with Russia
Today, Foreign Minister Sven Mikser met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark Anders Samuelsen to discuss Estonia-Denmark relations, the security situation in Europe, and relations with Russia.
Foreign Minister Mikser affirmed good relations between the two countries and thanked Denmark for its contribution to the strengthening of regional security. “Estonia and Denmark share the same values on both Europe’s unity and its defence. Denmark’s contribution to the presence of allies (eFP) in Estonia is very important to us,” Mikser said and added that one of Estonia’s aims for the future is to increase cyber cooperation.
Speaking about Russia, Mikser emphasised that it is important to continue with the EU’s common policy based on five guiding principles towards Russia. The foreign ministers also discussed the upcoming NATO Summit and topical EU affairs.
Mikser also took part in a round table discussion on security at the Danish Institute for International Studies where relations with Russia and regional cooperation were discussed.
In the afternoon, Mikser gave a speech at the reception organised by the Estonian Embassy in Copenhagen and the Nordica airline to mark Nordica’s direct route from Tallinn to Copenhagen opened the same day. “Better connections, for example in the Nordic-Baltic economic region, create a more diverse social network and contribute to the region’s competitiveness and prosperity, as well as tourism,” Mikser noted in his remarks.
