Estonian UNSC campaign task force visit to Republic of Congo
Estonian delegation meeting at the Ministry for Post and Telecommunications of Republic of Congo
Last week, Mr. Daniel Schaer, Ambassador-at-Large and Special Diplomatic Representative of the Estonian President for Africa and Ms. Kaisa Mitt-Alvarez, counsellor at the UN Security Council Task Force of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited the Republic of the Congo as part of the Estonian campaign for a UN Security Council non-permanent member seat.
The Estonian delegation met with Mr. Jean Felix Mokiemo, Secretary General for Cooperation and Development at Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Mr. Franck Siolo, Director of Cabinet of the Minister for Post and Telecommunications; and Mr. Florent Tsibaga, Adviser to the President. The Estonian delegation also met the EU Ambassador in Congo Mrs. Saskia De Lang and representatives of telecommunications companies.
The Estonian Delegation received a warm welcome in Congo and the Congolese representatives welcomed the opportunity to learn more about Estonia and Estonian e-solutions. Congolese delegations have visited Estonia 3 times, one of which was led by the Minister for Post and Telecommunications Mr. Léon Juste Ibombo. Opportunities for cooperation in the areas of information and communication technology were discussed at length and the Estonian delegation gave a detailed overview of the e-solutions and e-services available in Estonia.
The representatives of the Ministry for Post and Telecommunicatons were particularly interested in cooperation and further experience sharing. The representatives of Congo commended Estonia’s objectives for the UN Security Council and noted that Estonia would have a lot to contribute as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
On 19 November, the campaign team led by Ambassador Margus Kolga and accompanied by Ms. Mari Tomingas from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs arrived in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta to continue with the introduction of Estonia’s UN Security Council candidature to the countries of South-East Asia.
Estonian UN Security Council campaign delegation visited the Republic of Kiribati on 15-18 November. Kiribati is a United Nations member state in Micronesia; being a member of the UN since 1999, it is the only member state, which to date has not joined any UN regional group. The land territory of Kiribati consists of 33 atolls on both sides of the equator.
