On Sunday 21 April Foreign Minister Sven Mikser extended his condolences to Tirak Marapana, the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, and the people of Sri Lanka, over several explosions in the country that have claimed the lives of at least 150 people, including foreign citizens.

“I strongly condemn the bomb attacks that claimed many lives in Kochchikade, Negombo, Batticaloa and Colombo in Sri Lanka. A terrorist attack during the Easter holidays is an attack on religious freedom and religion,” Foreign Minister Mikser said. “I extend my sincere condolences to the families of victims and wish everyone affected by this massacre strength and a speedy recovery in this dark and difficult moment. Our thoughts are with you,” Mikser added.

The attacks took place on 21 April in several cities, by 22 April the death toll has risen to 290 and hundreds of people have been injured.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs kindly asks all Estonian citizens in Kochchikade, Negombo, Batticaloa and Colombo in Sri Lanka, where the explosions took place, to contact their loved ones.
