Today 5 September, Estonian Ambassador to Spain Mariin Ratnik presented her credentials to King Philip Felipe VI. The meeting following the presentation ceremony was also attended by Foreign Minister Josep Borrell Fontelles who is the candidate for the position of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
The meeting covered the bilateral relations of Estonia and Spain, which, according to the Ambassador, are excellent and close despite the geographical distance between the countries. “I am glad to see greater interest from Estonian citizens and entrepreneurs in Spain and the increasing interest of Spanish tourists in visiting Estonia,” Ambassador Ratnik said. They also discussed possibilities for a closer cooperation in areas such as the e-state, cyber security and new technologies. “Estonia is certainly open to new projects in the digital area in administration, education, and medicine, and is ready to present its experience in cyber security,” the Ambassador added.
“A great opportunity to celebrate and deepen our relations is provided by the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Estonia and Spain in 2021,” Ambassador Ratnik said.
They also praised the excellent cooperation of their countries in the European Union and NATO. Ambassador Ratnik thanked the King and the Foreign Minister for Spain’s contribution to the region’s security, highlighting Spain’s participation in the Baltic Air Policing mission and in the work of the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence. Touching on the European Union, they agreed that both countries value the unity of the EU, especially also in foreign policy.
