Estonian Ambassador to Luxembourg Toomas Tirs presents credentials
On Wednesday, 12 December, Estonia’s new Ambassador to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Toomas Tirs presented his credentials to Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg. Ambassador Tirs resides in Brussels.
In the discussion that followed the ceremony, Ambassador Tirs and Grand Duke Henri affirmed the excellent relations between the two countries, including cooperation in the EU, NATO, and other international organisations. The Grand Duke praised Estonia’s achievements in the field of e-governance and emphasised the trust between the two countries demonstrated by the opening of Estonia’s data embassy in Luxembourg. “Luxembourg is a very important partner for Estonia. Luxembourg hosts the data and information necessary for the reliable functioning of Estonia’s e-services,” the Ambassador said.
The meeting also focused on defence cooperation in NATO, security policy, business relations, and renewable energy. The Grand Duke hopes to visit Estonia in the future.
Ambassador Toomas Tirs has graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where he studied business management. He has worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia since 2007. Tirs has held different positions in the political department, external economic and development cooperation department, and the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the EU. In 2015, Tirs worked as a national expert at the Secretariat of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the EU, and from 2016-2018 as the head of logistics for Estonia’s Presidency of the Council of the EU. Tirs is also the head of administration at the Estonian Permanent Representation to the EU.
