Estonia to provide 3.4 million euros for development projects in partner countries
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken the decision to allocate 3.4 million euros among 39 education, inclusion, IT development and enterprise-based projects in Ukraine, Afghanistan, Georgia, Moldova and Belarus. The projects are to be carried out between 2018 and 2020.
Foreign Minister Sven Mikser says that Estonia’s help in key partner countries for development cooperation is very much welcomed and highly valued. “There’s been much more interest this year in getting a whole range of development projects off the ground,” he revealed. “I’m really pleased that we’ll be contributing to the development of education, supporting the inclusion of women and young people in business, promoting IT capability and other e-services and offering our knowledge and experience in Ukraine, Afghanistan, Georgia, Moldova and Belarus.”
A total of 15 projects to a value of 1.5 million euros are to be supported in Ukraine; 10 projects to a value of 800,000 euros in Georgia; nine projects to a value of 700,000 euros in Moldova; four projects to a value of 200,000 euros in Belarus; and one project to a value of 90,000 euros in Afghanistan.
The projects include 15 in the field of education, six aimed at the inclusion of women and young people in business, six focussing on ICT development, three involving rural and agricultural development, two fostering enterprise and one promoting health care and related e-services.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is financing the projects from development cooperation and humanitarian aid funds. Such cooperation on Estonia’s part is designed to contribute to the development of democracy and the economy, to reducing poverty around the world and to achieving global objectives of sustainable development by offering those who need it Estonian knowledge and experience in implementing reforms.
