Estonia may get US$6.5 million from the USA for its preparations to join NATO

The U.S. House of Representatives approved with a large majority the decision to set aside a total of US$55.5 million to seven NATO candidate countries for their preparations to join the alliance. According to the decision Estonia could receive a chance to get a share of 6.5 million dollars.

In the House of Representatives the decision gathered 372 votes for and 46 votes against it. The allotment must be approved by the U.S. Senate and President George W. Bush.

The House of Representatives' decision stipulates that Estonia should get 6.5, Latvia 7, Lithuania 7.5 , the Slovak Republic 8.5, Slovenia 4.5, Bulgaria 10 and Romania 11.5 million dollars.

At the same time the members of the House of Representatives confirmed their continued support for NATO enlargement and called upon NATO allies to co-operate with the USA for the enlargement to succeed at the Prague summit meeting.
