Deputy Secretary General Mr. Viljar Lubi meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Belize, Mr. Patrick Faber
On 19-20 February 2018 the Estonian delegation, led by Deputy Secretary General for Economic Development of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications Mr. Viljar Lubi, visited Belize to meet with Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Patrick Faber, Minister of Economic Development, Petroleum, Investment, Trade and Commerce Ms. Tracy Taegar-Panton, Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Patrick Andrews as well as Mr. Michael Singh, Advisor on Planning, Performance and Digital Transformation in the Office of the Prime Minister.
The aim of the visit was to introduce to the interlocutors Estonia’s first-time candidature for a non-permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2020-2021 as well as to enliven the bilateral relations between the two countries. All the interlocutors agreed during the discussions that small states play an important role in the United Nations and they should always be represented in the Security Council as their non-permanent membership brings a different, fresh perspective to the Council discussions and deliberations.
All the government representatives were interested by Estonia’s digital solutions. A recently developed vision for the digitalisation of Belizean public services and the improvement of the efficiency of inter-agency communication provides a solid basis for the enhancement of bilateral relations and cooperation between Belize and Estonia. Estonia is ready to share its experience and lessons learnt from the development of e-government and digital services.
The Estonian delegation included Ambassador-at-Large Mr. Daniel Schaer and Ms. Mari Tomingas from the United Nations Security Council Campaign Task Force of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, joined in Belize City by the Honorary Consul of Estonia in Belize Mr. Estevan Perera.
Estonia UN Security Council campaign delegation made the first ever official Estonian visit to the Comoros. Daniel Schaer, Ambassador and Special Diplomatic Representative of the President of Estonia and Kaisa Mitt-Alvarez, member of Estonia’s UN Security Council campaign delegation visited Moroni on July 19-20.
