The first Estonian foreign representations will open their doors to Estonian citizens for advance polls of the European Parliament elections tomorrow. Representations are open for voting for at least two days from 11 to 16 May.

In total, it is possible to vote at 39 representations in 35 countries.

Voting at the representations is one of the three options available for Estonian citizens living in a foreign country. They can also cast their votes electronically on the www.valimised.ee website from 16 to 22 May, while the admission of applications for voting with mail ballots has ended in foreign representations.

“Previous experience indicates that Estonians living abroad overwhelmingly prefer e-voting. Considering the great distances and the hectic pace of life, it is often the most convenient method, however, there are people who come in person to a representation to fill their civic duty, or vote in advance by mail,” Director General of the Consular Department Kersti Eesmaa said.

“In any case, our representations are ready for the European Parliament elections. We advise everyone wishing to cast their vote at the representation to check in advance when the representation is open for voting,” she recommended.

Citizens who live in another European Union member state and have notified their country of residence of their desire to vote according to the local electoral rolls cannot vote for candidates on the Estonian roll.

The opening times for voting of Estonian representations are available on the Foreign Ministry’s website (in Estonian): https://vm.ee/et/valimistel-osalemine. More information on European Parliament elections in Estonia: https://www.valimised.ee/en
