EU foreign ministers discuss situation in the Middle East

Foreign Minister Sven Mikser is in Brussels today for the EU Foreign Affairs Council that will focus on situation in the Middle East and in Iraq. Prior to the Foreign Affairs Council, the foreign ministers will have an informal breakfast with Benjamin Netanyahu, prime minister of Israel.

Other topics on the agenda of the EU foreign ministers’ meeting include the permanent structured cooperation (PESCO), follow-up to the African Union - EU summit and implementation of the joint statement, and  a meeting with colleagues from the G5 Sahel. The Council is also expected to adopt a number of conclusions, including the Council conclusions on Thailand and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the gender action plan and the new strategy on aid for trade.

Foreign Minister Sven Mikser will hand the EU Sanctions Map, a digital data visualisation tool created by the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, over to the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.

Foreign Minister Sven Mikser will head the intergovernmental accession conference (IGC) with Montenegro, where negotiations will be opened on Chapter 2 (freedom of movement for workers) and Chapter 3 (right of establishment and freedom to provide services), and IGC with Serbia, where Chapter 6 (company law) and Chapter 30 (external relations) will be opened.
