Estonian Ambassador to the Philippines presents credentials
On 9 January, Estonian Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines Jaak Lensment presented his Letters of Credence to President Rodrigo Duterte. The Ambassador resides in Tokyo.
Following the ceremony, President Duterte and Ambassador Lensment discussed relations between Estonia and the Philippines. “Despite great geographical distance between the two countries, Estonia and the Philippines have a great deal in common from highly educated human capital and digitalised daily life to love for singing and dancing,” Lensment said.
Ambassador Lensment and President Duterte also discussed opportunities for deeper cooperation in the fields of IT and cyber, tourism and education. After the ceremony, the ambassador laid a wreath at the monument of the Philippine national hero José Rizal.
Estonian Honorary Consul General in Manila Juan N. Peña Rivadeneira and Estonian Honorary Consul in Olongapo Fernando Martin O. Peña were also present at the ceremony.
Ambassador Jaak Lensment was born on 22 March 1966 in Kilingi-Nõmme. In 1991 he graduated from the Belarusian State University where he studied philosophy. Jaak Lensment has worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1993. Before taking on the role of Estonian Ambassador to Japan, Lensment was Estonian Ambassador to Belarus. In addition to the Philippines, Lensment is Estonia’s non-resident ambassador to the Republic of Korea.
