Ambassador Daniel Schaer visited Guatemala for Estonia's UNSC campaign
Ambassador Daniel Schaer meeting with Mr. Carlos Hugo Avila, acting Director General for International Organisations and Economic Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guatemala
Ambassador Daniel Schaer visited Guatemala on 15-16 February. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Schaer met with Mr. Carlos Hugo Avila, acting Director General for International Organisations and Economic Relations and with Ambassador Luis Fernando Carranza, Director General for Bilateral Relations.
Topics discussed included Estonia’s UN Security Council candidature for 2020-2021, bilateral cooperation and cooperation in international organisations as well as recent political, social and economic developments in Guatemala.
The interlocutors confirmed that Estonia, a small and innovative country, would bring new, fresh viewpoints and solutions to the Security Council. The Guatemalan colleagues were keen to learn about Estonia’s experiences in e-government and digital solutions.
In Guatemala City, Ambassador Schaer met with the Head of the European Union Delegation, Ambassador Stefano Gatto and Swedish Ambassador Anders Kompass to gain a better understanding of the political and economic situation in the country, relations with neighbouring nations, cooperation with the European Union and other international organisations, as well as the priorities of the Guatemalan government.
The Estonian delegation met on 14 and 15 March in Manama with H.E. Dr. Abdulla Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for International Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and with H.E. Mohamed Ali Mohammed Al-Khuzaie, Chairman of Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security Committee of the Shura Council of Bahrain.
The Estonian delegation met on 13 March with Member of the Federal National Council and Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee Mr. Mohamed bin Kardos Al Ameri in order to discuss bilateral relations and introduce Estonia’s campaign to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021.
