Diplomatic relations between Estonia and San Marino were established on 9 July 2003. San Marino’s first ambassador to Estonia Silvia Berti presented her credentials to President Ilves on 21 February 2008. The ambassador resides in San Marino.
Estonia’s first ambassador to San Marino, Andres Tomasberg, held the position from February 2009 to August 2010, Merike Kokajev from 2010-2014. The current ambassador Celia Kuningas-Saagpakk presented her credentials to Captains Regent of San Marino Gian Franco Terenziand and Guerrino Zanotti on 20 November 2014. The ambassador resides in Rome.
No high-level visits have taken place.
Economic relations between Estonia and San Marino are minimal. According to the data of Statistics Estonia, in 2014 San Marino was Estonia's 124th trading partner with a turnover of about 257 000 EUR and in 2016 Estonia's 131 trading partner with a turnover of 147 000 EUR.
As of 1 January 2011 there is one more connection between the two countries. Estonia is now a party to the decisions made regarding the euro, which is also the currency of San Marino (as well as Monaco and the Vatican).

Main articles of export in 2013 were wood and wood products - 82,6% and machinery and equipment - 11,5%.
In 2012, direct contacts between the chambers of commerce of Estonia and San Marino were established. Peter Gorinscheff, the head of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce, visited San Marino in May 2012.
