The Republic of Panama recognised Estonia upon the latter joining the League of Nations on 22 September 1921.

The Republic of Panama recognised the regained independence of the Republic of Estonia on 17 September 1991.

Diplomatic relations between Panama and Estonia were established on 13 January 2005.

The embassy of the Republic of Panama is located in Warsaw and Mrs Yessenia E. Chala Saucedo is chargé d'affaires ad interim.

Bilateral meetings

In May 2004, Prime Minister Juhan Parts met with the then Vice President of Panama, Arturo Vallarino, at the EU-LAC Summit in Mexico.

Estonian citizens may stay in Panama visa-free for up to 6 months.

In 2012, Estonia mainly exported mineral products (47.4%) and medical and measurement instruments (34.4%) and mainly imported medical and measurement instruments and tobacco products.

Direct investments

According to the Bank of Estonia Panama’s direct investments in Estonia amounted to EUR 35.2 million as at 31 March 2013. The main sectors are financial and insurance activities, the manufacturing industry and wholesale and retail trade.

The volume of Estonia’s direct investments in Panama has not been disclosed due to data protection rules. The main sector is real estate.
